SIDNEY, N.Y. (WBNG) — Troopers across the state stepped up enforcement over the Fourth of July holiday weekend as Americans hit the road and celebrated the county’s 250th birthday. As a result, troopers across Troop C racked up a series of arrests and issued hundreds of citations.
New York State Police sent out enforcement data over the weekend for Troop C, which covers the counties of Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Otsego, Tioga, and Tompkins.
The data from July 3 to July 6 revealed that 38 arrests were made. A breakdown of those arrests showed:
One felony 34 misdemeanors3 violations
Of those arrested, 17 were DWI-related, 12 for alcohol, and three for drugs, troopers said.
Over the weekend, 609 citations were issued with the following breakdown:
Speed: 186 (two in work zones) No seat belt: 107 (85 adults, 22 children) Move over law: 41Using an electronic device: 16 (four for calls, 12 for texts) Other: 43
Troopers recorded 42 collisions over the period. 36 of those were recorded as property damage, and six were counted as physical injury crashes.
Of those collisions, one was attributed to alcohol and 11 were attributed to speed, troopers said.
