Germantown resident Edward Navedo, 41, was arrested following an incident on Sunday, June 28, on Interstate 84, New York State Police announced on Monday, July 6.
According to the agency, at around 1:40 a.m. on the day of his arrest, Dutchess County 911 received reports of a vehicle traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Interstate 84 near mile marker 57 in East Fishkill.
Troopers, helped out by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, located the vehicle, a 2024 GMC, still traveling the wrong way on I-84 near mile marker 66 in the Town of Southeast, State Police said.
Authorities said troopers successfully deployed a tire deflation device, safely bringing the SUV to a stop.
The driver, identified as Navedo, was the only one inside the vehicle.
During the investigation, troopers said Navedo showed signs of intoxication. He was taken to the State Police barracks in Brewster, where he submitted to a chemical breath test that measured his blood alcohol content at 0.19 percent, according to authorities.
Navedo was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, aggravated DWI with a BAC of 0.18 percent or more, and reckless driving.
He was arraigned in Kent Town Court and released on his own recognizance. Navedo is scheduled to appear in Southeast Town Court on July 9, at 1 p.m.
