New York investing $100M in law enforcement technology

  • July 6, 2026

ALBANY, N.Y. (WCAX) – New York is putting $100 million toward crime-fighting technology for police departments and sheriffs’ offices across the state.

Twenty-five million dollars will fund a new statewide records management system, replacing a decades-old platform and improving how agencies share information. The remaining $75 million will go to law enforcement agencies to upgrade tools that help prevent and solve crimes.

About 500 agencies outside New York City are eligible for the funding.

Gov. Kathy Hochul said the investment is aimed at making technology accessible to smaller departments.

“For smaller communities to not have to worry about these expenses, but you know that that technology is out there and you want to have it, and it’s just sometimes so unaffordable. We can help make the difference in solving crimes and sometimes between life and death,” said Hochul, D-New York.

Grants will range from $100,000 to $6 million, depending on the size of the department. Agencies have until Sept. 2 to apply.
