Saint-Gobain Ceramics & Plastics in Falconer is set to lay off 79 workers on September 1.
The facility is located in Chautauqua County.
According to a Saint-Gobain North America spokesperson, the company is ending the production of the AZS (Alumina-Zirconia-Silica) at the Falconer facility in August, leading to a reduction in workforce.
“In an effort to optimize its Monofrax refractories business, Saint-Gobain announced that it made the difficult decision to end the production of the AZS (Alumina-Zirconia-Silica) products line at its SEFPRO manufacturing facility in Falconer, NY. This will result in a reduction of the workforce at this facility. Production is expected to end in August 2026,” the statement read. “This will not impact every product line at Falconer, and the facility will continue the production of its remaining product lines. This decision follows careful consideration and evaluation of Saint-Gobain’s core business goals and aligns with the company’s mission and strategy. The company values and thanks all the employees impacted by this decision for their hard work and is committed to supporting these employees as they transition out of the business.”
According to its website, Saint-Gobain “designs, manufactures and distributes materials and services adapted to the residential, non-residential and infrastructure markets” and also has locations in Niagara Falls and Amherst.
