A major emergency unfolded in Midtown Manhattan after structural damage was discovered inside a 38-story building undergoing renovations.
Construction workers reported buckled steel columns, sagging floors and falling bricks, prompting officials to evacuate the building along with several neighboring properties as engineers rushed to assess the danger.
Authorities closed portions of East 42nd and 43rd Streets while emergency crews secured the area. No injuries were reported as the investigation into what caused the structural failure continues.
