If you missed out on the initial drop of Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s NYC-inspired, affordable World Cup jerseys — only 1,500 of the $50 kits were made and sold in person at the NYC CityStore — you will be happy to know a restock is on the way. And this time, you’ll be able to buy them online. The mayor’s office is releasing 500 jerseys at 10 a.m. E.T. each weekday between Wednesday, July 8, and Thursday, July 16, giving you seven chances to get one.
The Brooklyn-made jerseys were designed by Arsh Raziuddin and produced by family-owned custom-soccer-apparel manufacturer Mazzi Sports, which has been making jerseys since 1986. They come in three colorways and are emblazoned with retro New York graphics like a soccer-ball-patterned big apple and a pigeon with borough-specific logos on the sleeve. To buy one, you’ll need to first create an account at nyc.gov/citystore; I recommend doing this early. Then be ready to pick a color (yellow and black, blue and red, or black and white) and a size (XS to 4XL). There is no shipping available, so you (or a friend) will need to pick up your purchase in person at the CityStore’s 1 Centre Street location.
The jerseys will undoubtedly sell out incredibly fast. If you can’t get one or you’re just really desperate to get your hands on any of the NYC World Cup campaign merch, you can already buy a poster or a water bottle on the CityStore website. (You have to pick those up in person too.) There’s also a series of collectible souvenir cups representing each of the five boroughs with the same great graphics available at dozens of restaurants throughout the city, including Eataly, Veselka, Wagamama, Inday, Bareburger, and Cafe Grumpy.
