Campbell, N.Y. — A woman has been charged after two cats were found abandoned inside a home in unsanitary conditions, according to New York State Police.
Troopers responded Monday around 5:30 p.m. to a home on Willow Circle in Campbell after receiving a report that two cats had been left inside following the tenant’s eviction several months earlier.
Police said troopers entered the residence with the property manager and found the animals hiding beneath a bed. The home was covered in animal feces, had no visible source of water and had excessive heat due to a lack of electrical service and air conditioning.
One of the cats was observed panting heavily and drooling, which police said was consistent with heat-related distress.
The cats were removed from the home and taken to the Finger Lakes SPCA in Bath for an evaluation and treatment.
The investigation determined that Ashley A. Wright, 41, of Bath, owned the cats and left them inside the residence after being evicted, according to state police.
Wright was arrested and charged with two counts of overdriving, torturing and injuring animals; failure to provide proper sustenance, which is a misdemeanor. She was released from custody with an appearance ticket for Campbell Town Court on Aug. 10.
