A high-rise building in Midtown Manhattan is at risk of collapse, with buckling support columns prompting the evacuation of several surrounding buildings.

Two support columns on the 21st floor buckled, Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D) said in a news conference, describing cracks and sagging floors. The 37-story high-rise at 235 East 42nd Street was under construction, being converted from an office building into residences.
