As the 2026 FIFA World Cup takes over New York City, fans searching for more than just another sports bar can find a celebration high above Times Square. Camp Magic Hour Rooftop is transforming into one of the city’s premier World Cup watch destinations, combining skyline views, oversized viewing screens, specialty cocktails and an atmosphere built for one of the world’s biggest sporting events.

With New York one of the tournament’s host cities, Camp Magic Hour saw an opportunity to create a gathering place where soccer fans from around the world could celebrate together.

“With the World Cup coming to our backyard, we saw an opportunity to create a destination where fans can celebrate together in the heart of the city,” said Julian Wrede, Senior Director of Food & Beverage Operations at TAO Group Hospitality. “The tournament is about community and shared excitement, and we wanted Magic Hour to be a large part of that experience for tourists and New Yorkers alike.”

“There are few places in the world more iconic than Times Square, so welcoming World Cup fans here feels incredibly special,” Wrede said. “It gives us the chance to showcase New York’s energy while bringing together visitors and locals for a truly global event.”

The venue expects every match to transform the rooftop into an energetic celebration, unlike its usual nightlife experience.

“A typical night at Magic Hour is energetic, but a soccer match brings a completely different level of emotion and anticipation,” Wrede said. “We saw this especially with the Knicks’ games, and now even more so with the World Cup. Every goal, save, and final whistle becomes a shared moment that turns the rooftop into one giant celebration.”

That communal energy is exactly what makes Times Square an ideal backdrop for the tournament.

“The World Cup is one of the few events that unites people across cultures, languages and countries, which mirrors what Times Square represents every day,” Wrede said. “It’s a place where the world comes together, making it a natural setting for the tournament.”

The growing popularity of immersive sports-viewing experiences has also helped fuel demand for venues that offer more than simply a television screen.

“Absolutely,” Wrede said when asked about the trend. “We’ve seen a significant increase in demand for sports-viewing experiences, especially in New York, where fans want to gather and celebrate together. The excitement surrounding the Knicks’ recent championship run was a great example of that—bars and restaurants across the city were packed with fans looking to share the moment, and it reinforced how much people crave communal experiences around major sporting events.”

He added that today’s fans are looking for a complete experience.

“Guests aren’t just looking for a screen to watch the match; they want great food, cocktails, entertainment and an atmosphere that makes them feel part of something bigger. That’s exactly the kind of experience we’re excited to bring to Times Square.”

Some must-trys are the lobster roll sliders with dill, lemon, and clarified butter, tuna tartare tostadas topped with cucumber and avocado, ribeye caren asada tacos, and classic parmesan fries.

The World Cup festivities also coincide with Camp Magic Hour, the rooftop’s seasonal “summer camp for adults” installation. Complete with nostalgic camp-inspired décor, playful games and themed food and drinks, the experience gives guests another reason to arrive early and stay far after the final whistle.

“Nostalgia offers a sense of comfort, connection and escapism, which feels especially valuable right now,” Wrede said. “Camp Magic Hour was designed to tap into those emotions by bringing back the fun and freedom of summer camp—from classic camp-inspired food and activities to the carefree spirit that so many people remember fondly from their childhood.”

According to Wrede, the concept resonates particularly well in New York because it offers an escape without leaving the city.

“New Yorkers are always looking for new ways to escape without actually leaving the city,” he said. “Camp Magic Hour captures the fun and freedom of summer camp while delivering it in a uniquely New York rooftop setting.”

While the colorful visuals make for eye-catching social media posts, Wrede says the goal goes beyond creating viral Insta-worthy moments.

“The visuals may draw people in, but the memories come from the atmosphere, the food and the shared experiences,” he said. “We focus on creating moments that are just as enjoyable in real life as they are on social media.”

That philosophy is also why Camp Magic Hour continues to reinvent itself with seasonal themes year-round.

“Seasonal installations are a huge part of what keeps Camp Magic Hour fresh,” Wrede said. “They allow us to reinvent the space throughout the year while leaning into one of our biggest strengths: versatility. Camp Magic Hour can be a family-friendly brunch destination, an immersive themed experience, a rooftop restaurant, or a nightlife hotspot—all within the same venue.”

As the world’s biggest sporting event brings millions of people to New York City, Camp Magic Hour aims to offer more than just a place to watch the match—it hopes to create the kind of shared celebration that defines the World Cup itself.
