VERONA, Wis. — A local artist is inviting the community to come out, connect and see her work up close at a free public mixer Thursday, July 9th.

Brooklyn Doby — also known by her artist name B.Denae Artistry — is the artist in residence at Art House 360 in Verona this month. Doby will be available for one-on-one conversations, displaying her work during the meet and greet.

“This will be an opportunity to hear about my artistic journey and to just connect with the community and have fun, mix n’ mingle and celebrate the creative arts of the world,” said Doby.

The event is Thursday, July 9, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Art House 360.

This a free community event open to the public, welcoming people of all backgrounds — whether you’re an artist, an entrepreneur, a supporter of her work, or someone simply looking to mix and mingle with others in the community.

Doby has a background in art therapy and “a passion for community and helping others heal creatively,” she said. “I just want to inspire somebody and connect with everyone that I can through art.”

While she won’t be painting live at the mixer, her artwork will be on display and available for purchase. She plans to have additional items like stickers and poster prints for sale.

Doby’s art focuses on abstract portraits. “There’s not enough positive imagery of people of color in the world,” she said. “So my goal as an artist is I only paint people of color because I want that community to see themselves and their reflection in my art, and to view themselves in a positive outlet, in a beautiful way and a mindset, and to just know that they are loved and they belong in the world.”
