I am always on the hunt for the next mind-blowing meal in New York City, but this one caught me completely off guard. Most people think of chicken or beef when they hit up a local halal joint. Not this time. The Golden Grillers in Jamaica, Queens, is completely changing the game with a seafood dish that is turning heads across the city. They are serving up a salmon platter that is pure perfection.
I stood right by the flat-top grill and watched the magic happen. It all starts with two massive fillets of fresh salmon seasoned to perfection. The chef throws them right onto the hot grill and presses them down with a heavy iron weight. You can hear that beautiful sizzle immediately. While the fish cooks, they start building the massive base of the platter. A heavy scoop of vibrant yellow basmati rice goes in first. Then, they pile on fresh lettuce, seasoned chickpeas, pickled jalapeƱos, and a generous handful of crispy, golden french fries.
Then came the true star of the show. The chef grabbed a squeeze bottle and coated that sizzling salmon with a rich honey sriracha glaze. Drenched. The glaze bubbles up and caramelizes on the hot grill, locking in all that moisture. He flips the fillets, lets them soak up all that sticky sweetness, and slides them right on top of the fries and rice. It looks absolutely elite.
But they do not stop there. To finish it off, they drizzle the entire platter with two of their signature sauces. First comes a dark, rich jerk sauce that adds a perfect kick of heat. Then, they layer on a thick, creamy garlic cilantro sauce. The visual is insane.
I grabbed a fork and went straight for a massive bite of that flaky, tender salmon mixed with the rice and sauce. The result? Incredible. The fish is beautifully cooked, and the combination of sweet honey sriracha with that creamy garlic sauce is a total flavor bomb. It is sweet, savory, and packed with a perfect hit of spice. If you think you know New York City halal food, you need to think again. Get down to Queens and check out The Golden Grillers for yourself. Who is hungry?
