Manhattan highrise deemed stable after columns buckled, and some evacuations are lifted

Engineering experts say the buckled columns are likely not repairable and will need to be removed.

The commissioner of the New York City Department of Buildings says the building hasn’t moved since they started monitoring it earlier Tuesday.


NEW YORK — An under-construction Manhattan high-rise at risk of collapse was stabilized late Tuesday and some evacuations of nearby buildings were lifted.
