A 7-year-old girl was struck and killed by a school bus early Wednesday, according to police, though it was not immediately clear what led up to the crash.

The child was struck by a bus operated for Yeshiva Viznitz just before 9 a.m. as she was crossing Blauvelt Road near Manor Drive in Monsey, police said. The girl, who was from Monsey, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Chopper 4 showed an emergency presence where the crash occurred.

The bus driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said. No drugs or alcohol were believed to have played a role in the crash.

It was not clear what charges, if any, the driver might face. Police have not released the name of the girl nor the bus driver.
