The Target inside Elmhurst’s Queens Place mall is slated to relocate to Rego Center in 2028, a store spokesperson confirmed Monday.
Alexander’s, Inc., which owns Rego Center, on June 29 announced the completion of a 15-year lease allowing Target to occupy 135,000 square feet of retail space there. The store is slated to sit across from Best Buy on the second floor of the complex, at 61-35 Junction Blvd.
Following Rego Center’s deal with Target, the multi-level, 600,000 square-foot open-air plaza is 99 percent leased, Alexander’s said in a press release. Queens Place, located at 88-01 Queens Blvd., is less than a mile away from Rego Center.
A Target spokesperson in a statement referred to the move as an exciting investment into a new space that will let the company better serve guests with a larger grocery selection, as well as new fixtures and innovations.
“As we get closer to this transition, we’ll have more to share, including exact dates and details on the new property,” the spokesperson said. “We look forward to continuing to serve the community in this new location.”
Earlier this year, Alexander’s sold its Rego Center phase I building at 96-05 Queens Blvd. to Northwell Health. The last of the former mall’s retailers, Burlington and Marshalls, moved to the phase II property last year.
Rego Center also houses Aldi, Petco, Five Below, Costco and more.
