Police are searching for a suspect who allegedly raped a woman at knifepoint in Greenwich Village late last month.
The frightening attack took place in the vicinity of West 10th Street and 5th Avenue at around 4:40 a.m. on June 27.
According to law enforcement sources, the suspect approached the 21-year-old woman, whipped out a knife, threatened the victim with the weapon, and proceeded to rape her.
The suspect immediately fled the scene in an unknown direction. The incident was reported to the 6th Precinct. The victim was brought to a local hospital in stable condition.
Authorities said the woman did not know her attacker.
Police on Tuesday released surveillance photos of the suspect, who remains at large. In the photos, he appears to be dark-skinned, wearing a white T-shirt and dark-colored sneakers. He also appears to be in a NYC subway station.
The incident took place just days after another suspect allegedly raped a 13-year-old girl in the Bronx’s Van Cortlandt Park on June 23. In this case, the perp attacked the young girl after she exited a Bx9 bus that both of them were riding.
