If you cross one of the international bridges between New York and Canada, such as the Peace Bridge or Thousand Islands Bridge, Rep. Tim Kennedy, a Democrat who represents New York’s 26th Congressional District, is pushing to make that process a lot easier.
Kennedy’s NEXUS for Families Act is making the rounds in Washington. He’s calling on the U.S. House of Representatives to pass the legislation right now.
A Nexus card gives pre-approved travelers access to an expedited process at the U.S. Canadian border. Right now, parents must submit separate applications for every family member and families cannot interview together.
“This legislation allows families to complete only one application as a family unit and make only one trip as a family unit for a joint interview, all while keeping all of the proper vetting procedures in place,” said Kennedy.
The push comes just after the legislation unanimously passed through the House Committee on Homeland Security last month.
