Even in decidedly un-barnyard-like locales like the Bronx, roosters can’t help but announce that it’s morning.

Footage taken by Engher Cabral shows a black rooster standing outside a mechanic in the Bronx on Wednesday, July 8.

In the footage, Cabral spots the rooster and as he walks past it, the rooster crows.

Cabral posted the video on TikTok, writing: “NYC commute on a random Wednesday.”

Though Cabral was surprised by the sighting, roosters are periodically spotted in the Bronx.

According to one report from 2014, roosters are among the top illegally owned pets in New York City, though the New York City Health Code prohibits owning roosters, ducks, geese, or turkeys in the five boroughs. Credit: Engher Cabral via Storyful
