1. Mamdani reflects on primary wins and first months in office
In a wide-ranging interview as part of NY1’s “Out of Office with the Mayor” series, Mayor Zohran Mamdani offered a personal look inside life at Gracie Mansion, saying he and his wife, Rama Duwaji, are making the historic residence feel like home.
He reflected on early political victories, praised his newly elected congressional allies and addressed recent political controversies. Mamdani also spoke about his wife’s role, his love of soccer and his focus on delivering results for New Yorkers.
2. Vacate orders still in effect for buildings near Manhattan high-rise as work to stabilize continues
Emergency stabilization work continues at the former Pfizer headquarters in Midtown after structural damage forced evacuations earlier this week.
Temporary shoring and steel supports are being installed as vacate orders remain in place for nearby buildings. Developer MetroLoft says the damaged section will be rebuilt and insists the building was never at risk of collapse.
3. Officials cheer Anthropic’s expansion in Manhattan
Anthropic, the San Francisco-based AI powerhouse, is taking over Manhattan.
The company, which has a valuation close to $1 trillion — making it worth more than any other AI startup — announced this week that it’s leasing a 16-story office building in Hudson Square.
