CARMEL- A 46-year-old Brooklyn man will be calling the New York State Department of Corrections home for the next four years after pleading guilty in Putnam County Court to drug possession and bail jumping.
District Attorney Robert Tendy described Michael Carroll as a repeat felony offender after Carroll was stopped by a deputy sheriff on the Taconic State Parkway in Putnam Valley in March 2021 for multiple traffic violations.
Tendy said at the time, Carroll provided police with a fake name and date of birth.
When deputies searched Carroll’s car they reportedly found 1,500 methamphetamine pills and pill fragments weighing over two ounces.
After not appearing in Putnam Valley Court, Carroll was indicted for Bail Jumping and was eventually located and arrested last September.
Tendy described the 1,500 methamphetamine pills and fragments as a substantial quantity, suggesting Carroll may have been dividing them for sale. “It was dangerous stuff,” he said. “When he was arrested in 2021, he failed to return to court, and a warrant was issued. Fortunately, we got him back. The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office did a fantastic job with the initial arrest and later tracking him down. First Assistant DA Breanne Smith also did excellent work prosecuting the case.”
