State authorities are zeroing in on transportation needs in Onondaga County, as work continues on Micron’s new semiconductor facility.
Gov. Kathy Hochul’s office says the new Central New York Forward project will look at improvements on certain roads in the towns of Clay and Cicero.
The office says the Central New York area could see its population swell by more than 76,000 in connection with the incoming Micron campus, and that could mean more traffic.
“Central New York’s transportation network is on the cusp of a major transformation, anchored by the I-81 Viaduct Project and the activity that is ramping up around the Micron facility,” Hochul said in a statement. “We need everyone working together to bring Central New York Forward and this aptly named effort will ensure the community has ample opportunities to help craft a vision for a highway system that can accommodate the unparalleled growth unfolding throughout the region.”
The state plans to hold open-house style meetings about the project at Clay Town Hall, with the first pair of meetings on July 30.
