Police took two people into custody after they crashed their vehicle into a Staten Island home early Monday morning.
According to police and FDNY sources, a 911 call reported that a 2012 Nissan Rogue had collided into a two-story home located at 2 Grasmere Ave., between Mosel Avenue and Giles Place, in Grasmere just before 5 a.m. on July 13.
When emergency services arrived, they found that the vehicle had careened through a wooden fence and into the home.
Eyewitnesses told police that the driver had been reportedly driving recklessly when they lost control and struck the home.
According to the FDNY, the vehicle’s occupants fled the scene. Meanwhile, firefighters shut off utilities to the home and evacuated the premises. The Department of Buildings was notified, but no major damage was reported.
Police later caught up with two persons of interest and took them into custody. Charges against them are pending, sources said.
No injuries were reported as a result of the crash, and the NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad is continuing its inquiry into the case.
