Syracuse, start your engines. This week brings auto lovers and car nuts back to Central New York to enjoy the largest auto show in the Northeast, the Syracuse Nationals.
But we’re also deep in the throes of summer with lots more fun ahead this week in July. The Syracuse Art Trail highlights new mural reveals at Lipe Art Park, while rock and reggae fans can catch 311 and Dirty Heads at the amphitheater. And down in Trumansburg, you can sing and dance the weekend away at the Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival.

Lunar Art Events will host a casual art-making event at Milano Bean Café where no artistic skills or experience are required. ‘Tarzan’ at The Rev

The 26th annual Syracuse Nationals will bring thousands of show vehicles and automotive enthusiasts from across the country to the New York State Fairgrounds for a weekend of cars, live entertainment and family-friendly attractions. The 2026 event debuts a new Thursday–Saturday format and introduces new features including iconic TV and movie vehicles, a Kids Power Wheels Racing experience, celebrity appearances and the “Horsepower After Hours” Thursday night kickoff party. Children ages 12 and under are admitted free.

The Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival of Music & Dance is an annual multi-day celebration of world music and culture held at the Trumansburg Fairgrounds near Ithaca. The festival features performers from around the globe, including blues legend Taj Mahal, Keith Frank & The Soileau Zydeco Band, and the Byrne Brothers. Often compared to a new-age Woodstock, the event draws thousands of attendees and is known for its family-friendly atmosphere. Children 12 and under are free with a parent or guardian.

Cazenovia Counterpoint presents a centennial commemorative screening of the 1923 Harold Lloyd silent comedy classic “Safety Last,” featuring the iconic scene of Lloyd dangling from a clock face high above a city street. Syracuse jazz pianist Michael Passarelli provides live grand piano accompaniment, improvising in real time in response to the film and the audience — recreating the experience of how the film was originally presented when it screened at this same Cazenovia location on May 17, 1924.

The Friends of Lipe Art Park host their annual art reveal event, showcasing newly commissioned works including the Art Flag, Graffiti T-Panel Murals, and Art Shark Murals. Festival of Orature
The Mĩcere Gĩthae Mũgo Foundation presents Central New York’s first-ever Festival of Orature, a free public celebration of spoken word traditions from Africa and the global diaspora featuring storytelling, song, poetry, proverb and call-and-response performance. An open-call youth competition for performers ages 6-18 will award cash prizes across five categories. The festival honors the third anniversary of the passing of Syracuse University professor and poet Mĩcere Gĩthae Mũgo (1942–2023), whose life’s work championed oral tradition as a living, liberatory force.

The Colorful Soles Fun Run is a family-friendly color run celebrating the life and legacy of Ava Wood, a 14-year-old from Central New York who died in January 2023. Participants of all ages walk or run a short course through seven color stations before joining a group color throw finale to “Paint the Sky for Ava.” Proceeds benefit the Ava Wood Stupendous Love National Scholarship Fund and Vibrant Emotional Health’s mental health and suicide prevention initiatives.

Watch the FIFA World Cup Final on a massive 9-by-16-foot outdoor LED screen at Everson Plaza in downtown Syracuse. The free event brings together soccer fans of all ages to experience the championship match in a lively, communal setting. Food, drinks and refreshments will be available on-site. More Syracuse places to watch the final match include Harvey’s Garden, Wolff’s and Kitty Hoynes.

Clay Historical Association Open House
The Clay Historical Association will unveil a restored 1800s water wagon to the public for the first time at its annual open house. All buildings at Clay Historical Park will be open and staffed by volunteers, including the Cigarville train station, a replica 1800s log cabin, a visitor center and the 1800s Sellen-Wellen barn, each housing donated artifacts from Clay residents past and present.

Hilby the Skinny German Juggle Boy at Unity Hall Family Fun Fest
World-renowned performer Hilby brings his circus skills, wacky comedy and gravity-defying juggling to Unity Hall’s free Family Fun Fest in Barneveld in Oneida County. The evening also features the Utica Zoo Mobile, face painting, yard games, food and beverages, and a free concert by Savage Friends. The event runs rain or shine, moving indoors if weather requires.

311 and Dirty Heads at the Amp
311 and Dirty Heads will perform at the Empower Federal Credit Union Amphitheater at Lakeview on Sunday, July 19. Special guests Ocean Alley and Rome will open the show at 5:30 p.m. 311 is an alternative rock band known for its mix of reggae, hip-hop and funk on songs like “Come Original,” “Down,” “All Mixed Up,” “Beautiful Disaster” and “Amber.” Led by singer Nick Nexum, the group released its 14th album in 2024. Dirty Heads is an alternative rock/reggae group which released its ninth album, “7 Seas,” on June 12. The band’s songs include “Vacation,” “Lay Me Down” (feat. Rome) and “Oxygen.”
