After hosting last year’s Twin Cities Harvest Festival without their iconic corn maze, the Bouwman family is planning a return to form with their new Brooklyn Park location.
At a July 8 meeting, the Planning Commission unanimously approved an interim use permit for the Bouwmans to host the event at 8901 101st Ave. N.
A corn maze will take up a sizable chunk of the roughly 26 acres that have been set aside, with inflatables, rides, food trucks and a petting zoo among the other planned uses for the site.
The new property is just a mile south from the Harvest Festival’s longtime home off of 109th Avenue North.
Encroaching development projects meant that the Bouwmans did not have enough time or space to plant corn on their rented farmland last year. While still renting, the family now has more available land for their crops heading into this fall.
Bear Bouwman told the Sun Post the family is planning an America 250 theme for this year’s maze. Previous maze designs have featured everything from sports team logos to first responder badges.
The interim use permit still needs to go to the Brooklyn Park City Council for final approval. The vote is currently scheduled for July 27.
If the permit is approved in its current form, the Twin Cities Harvest Festival will operate from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays from Oct. 4 through Nov. 1.
