Typically, the health of New York state is measured one data point at a time. Did population go up or down? Did child poverty rise or fall? But the Citizens Budget Commission has created a competitiveness dashboard that measures the state more holistically by combining multiple data points, including jobs, GDP, per capita income, child poverty, population and public school enrollment.
The tracker is then broken down by region, so the Southern Tier can compare how it’s faring against the North Country, or Western New York or the Finger Lakes Region. Or a user can track how the state as a whole has fared over time.
