TOWN OF ROSSIE, New York (WWNY) – When police recently pulled over a van on U.S. Route 11, the doors of the vehicle opened up and 10 people went running.
It happened Sunday at 7am when New York State Police say a 2013 Ford van was allegedly speeding. The trooper determined the van’s Pennsylvania registration was expired and the driver couldn’t give a valid license.
As the trooper continued to investigate, 10 people got out and ran away.
U.S. Border Patrol then got to the scene at the request of the New York State Police, according to troopers, and the group, along with K9s, searched the area for the runaways.
Troopers say 4 of the people were apprehended, 6 others have not been located.
Customs and Border Patrol confirms for 7NEWS that the 4 people taken at the scene are considered “illegal aliens” and said 3 of them were Mexican men and the other was a woman from Honduras.
There’s no indication a search for the other 6 people is happening, but 7NEWS couldn’t get a firm statement about that. State police does say the public isn’t at risk.
