Daniel Arsham’s N.Y.C. Firehouse Home and Studio Lists for $9 Million

Over the summer of 2022, Daniel Arsham paid nearly $6 million for a converted New York firehouse designed by official FDNY architect Napoleon LeBrun and completed in 1887 for Engine Company No. 55. The contemporary artist then set about customizing the landmarked building, most notably repurposing the ground floor into a soaring studio/garage with poured concrete floors, custom bookshelves, and an iron spiral staircase painted in his signature mint green. The double-bay doors and an existing curb cut also allowed him to accommodate his matching Porsche 964 Carrera 2.

Arsham—best known for his “fictional archaeology” works, which transform modern pop-culture items, cars, and tech devices into eroded, crystal-infused relics—has now listed his stylishly updated digs in Lower Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood for a dash under $9 million. Nick Gavin Properties at Compass represents the listing.

Spanning almost 21 feet wide and encompassing roughly 2,100 square feet across four stories, the 19th-century structure retains its original patterned brickwork and cast-iron pillars topped with flame motifs. Inside, the light-filled upper levels showcase wide-plank oak floors, 13-foot ceilings, and large windows framing views of Lafayette Street. Per Artnet, the interiors are decorated with pieces by KAWS, Josh Sperling, and Arsham himself, though none of the art is included in the sale.

Standing out above the garage/studio is a spacious living room beneath an exposed wood-beamed ceiling and a sleek kitchen outfitted with white oak cabinetry, an eat-in island, and top-tier Miele and Sub-Zero appliances. A full-floor primary suite—the home’s sole bedroom—is dressed in wallpaper inspired by an installation Arsham created in Paris. It also has a bespoke walk-in closet and a bath with Vola fixtures, a sculpted sink, and a windowed steam shower.

The primary bedroom features a bonsai relief sculpture.

Beyond the rare luxury of a private drive-in garage, the firehouse also boasts a landscaped rooftop sporting a built-in outdoor kitchen, a cabana, and panoramic views of the downtown skyline. The basement is equipped with storage, laundry facilities, and a flexible recreation area, while integrated high-tech systems include smart-home automation and security systems, along with multi-zone climate control tailored for art preservation.
