NEW YORK (PIX11) — City health officials confirmed the exact number of buildings that tested positive for Legionella bacteria amid the Legionnaires’ outbreak in the Upper East Side.
Commissioner Dr. Alister Martin said 76 buildings within the cluster zone (ZIP codes 10028, 10128 and 10075) were positive for Legionella.

That number more than doubles the previously reported 31 buildings that tested PCR positive. Martin said that of the 76 buildings, 57 have completed required remediation. That includes draining, cleaning and disinfection.
City health officials have not disclosed the addresses for these buildings, but did say they’d be released “very soon.”
All 183 cooling towers in the area have been sampled, according to Martin. City health officials said those were determined through geolocation that creates an investigative boundary.
There have been no deaths associated with the 60 confirmed cases of Legionnaires’ disease.
As of Monday evening, 15 people were still in the hospital being treated for the illness.
