On July 10, 2026, at approximately 10:00 p.m., members of the Troop K Community Stabilization Unit (CSU) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling eastbound on Interstate 84 in the Town of Southeast for violations of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.

The operator was identified as Bienvenido R. Nunez, Jr., 48, of Edison, New Jersey, and the vehicle’s passenger, a 36-year-old female, were both determined not to possess a valid driver’s license. During an inventory conducted prior to the vehicle being impounded, Troopers located a loaded privately made .40-caliber handgun inside the vehicle. Nunez admitted ownership of the handgun.

Nunez was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C felony, and Criminal Possession of a Firearm, a Class E felony.

Nunez was arraigned in the Town of Kent Court and remanded without bail to Putnam County Correctional Facility. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 16, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in the Town of Southeast Court.
