CICERO, N.Y. — An Oswego man remains in the hospital after being ejected from his motorcycle on I-481 in Cicero.
The New York State Police said the crash happened at approximately 9:07 a.m. Wednesday, on Interstate 481 southbound in the Town of Cicero, Onondaga County.
A preliminary investigation determined that Zachary H. Mills, 29, of Oswego, was operating a 2017 Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound on Interstate 481 when he approached a 2025 Mazda CX-50 operated by a 37-year-old Pennellville man.
As traffic slowed, the Mazda driver activated his right turn signal, reduced his speed, and began merging into the adjacent lane. Mills failed to observe the reduction in speed and struck the left rear of the Mazda.
The impact ejected Mills from the motorcycle, and he struck the guide rail.
Mills sustained severe injuries and was transported to Upstate University Hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
Interstate 481 southbound was closed for several hours while members of the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) processed the scene. The roadway has since reopened.
The investigation remains ongoing.
