BOROUGHWIDE— A COALITION OF reform Democrats known as “Brooklyn Can’t Wait” claims they have enough votes to control the Brooklyn Democratic Party come September, according to NY1. The group has chosen Sunset Park district leader Julio Peña to be the party’s next chair.
The coalition, which has a slim majority in the county’s executive committee, is looking to unseat Assemblymember Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn, who has led the Brooklyn Democrats since 2020.
“Are reformers trying to dismantle ‘the machine’ or inherit the party that I rebuilt and reformed?” Bichotte Hermelyn asked in a release from the Democratic County Committee, published in the Brooklyn Eagle. “I welcome more reform … because I drastically reformed the party,” she added.
