UPDATE 7/17:

Today, at approximately 5:56 p.m., the New York State Police were advised by Dutchess County 911 of a possible sighting of Ryan Courtien at the Harlem Valley–Wingdale Train Station, located on Wheeler Road in the Town of Dover, New York.

Members of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, who were in the immediate area, responded to the location and confirmed the individual to be Ryan Courtien. Courtien was subsequently transported to a local medical facility for evaluation.

The New York State Police extend their appreciation to the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, assisting law enforcement agencies, the media, and members of the public for their assistance, vigilance, and cooperation throughout this investigation. The information provided by the public was instrumental in the safe location and recovery of Ryan.

UPDATE 7/17: 

The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) continues to investigate the disappearance of Ryan Courtien. Investigators have confirmed that Courtien was last observed on July 12, 2026, at approximately 12:38 p.m., exiting a Metro-North train at Grand Central Terminal and walking toward Madison Avenue. Courtien appeared to be traveling alone and was wearing khaki pants and a black long-sleeved shirt. He may still be in the New York City area.

The New York State Police are requesting the public’s assistance in locating Courtien. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to contact the New York State Police at (845) 677-7300

The New York State Police extend their appreciation to the many agencies and organizations that assisted in the search efforts, including the Dutchess County Emergency Response Team, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Forest Rangers, Sam’s Point Search and Rescue, Lower Adirondack Search and Rescue, Disaster and Wilderness Ground Searchers, Catskill Mountain Search and Rescue, Hatzolah Special Operations, the J.H. Ketcham Hose Company, the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control, the Kent (CT) Volunteer Fire Department, the Warren (CT) Volunteer Fire Department, the Sherman (CT) Volunteer Fire Department, the Gaylordsville (CT) Volunteer Fire Department, and Empress EMS.

The investigation remains ongoing.

UPDATE 7/15:

The current search in the town of Dover has concluded. However, the investigation remains active, and additional leads are being pursued by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact Troop K headquarters (845) 677-7300.This investigation remains ongoing and more information will be released as it becomes available. 

UPDATE – Mr.  Courtien was last seen wearing a long sleeve black shirt.  
The New York State Police in Dover are requesting the public’s assistance in locating Ryan Courtien, 49, of Dover, New York.

Courtien was last seen at approximately 9:30 a.m. in the vicinity of Waldo Road in Dover, New York. At the time he was last seen, he was wearing tan pants and a black T-shirt.
