Brian Bowen Smith

In my recent interview with Rande Gerber he shared the following in his own words

“I’ve never been someone who sits still for very long. Wherever I am, I like to start the day moving. Maybe it’s a run on the beach, a workout, getting out on the water, or anything outdoors before the day gets going. There’s something about fresh air, sunshine, and a clear mind that sets the tone for everything else.

The older I get, the more I realize the things that make me happiest are actually pretty simple: my family, good friends, good conversations, and being present. Whether I’m in Malibu, New York or Miami, I tend to gravitate toward places with great energy and good people. It’s always been less about where I am and more about who I’m with.

I still appreciate a night out. I still like long dinners, live music, and sitting around with friends telling stories that somehow never get old. The difference today is that I want to actually remember all of it. I wake up the next morning ready to do it again.

That’s one of the reasons I launched Crazy Mountain, my non-alcoholic beer. I still want to be part of the moment, sharing good dinners and hanging with friends, and on occasion that might include a few late nights.. I just want to feel good doing it.

For years, luxury meant access. Today, I think luxury is health. It’s having the freedom to stay out late, get up early, be active, be present, and not miss a thing.”

Here, the mega entrepreneur shares the places he returns to again and again.

What’s your perfect way to start a day in Los Angeles?

I’m always happiest outside. A hike or mountain bike ride in the Santa Monica Mountains is hard to beat, and Sandstone Peak is a cool spot to get out, clear my head, and recharge.

Where do you go for dinner in Malibu?

Café Habana is always a favorite, and Malibu Seafood is one of those places I never get tired of.

What are your go-to spots in Hollywood?

Giorgio Baldi, Beverly Grill, and Craig’s. They’ve all been around for a while, and they still have great energy.

Where do you spend time in the Hamptons?

The Hills is for a few holes of golf with friends, Babette’s is great to start the day, Tutto Il Giorno is always a good choice for lunch or dinner, and during the summer, Surf Lodge and Sunset Beach are hard to beat.

What are your favorite places in New York City?

Corner Store, Balthazar, Zero Bond, and The Campbell. Each has its own personality, and they all remind me why I love spending time in New York.

Where do you go when you’re in Nashville?

Soho House is always a great place to catch up with people. Kid Rock’s The Detroit Cowboy is a fun night out, and I of course Troubadours got everything you need

What about Miami?

Forte dei Marmi, Sunny’s Steakhouse, The Surf Club Restaurant, Uchi, and Pastis. Miami’s restaurant scene just keeps getting better.

What makes a place memorable to you?

Honestly, it’s the people. A great restaurant or a beautiful setting is important, but the company is what you remember years later. That’s always been true for me.

Has the way you travel and socialize changed over the years?

Definitely. I still enjoy all the same things I always have. I just appreciate feeling good the next morning. That’s become part of the experience. For me, luxury today is about wellness, balance, and having the energy to enjoy every part of the day and night. whether that’s a morning hike, BBQ with the family, a long dinner with friends, or just a quiet night at home
