Car in Pond Off Skinner Road in Richfield Springs: State Police Investigate

11/5; 1:20 p.m.—State Police have identified the victim as Rachel Galesky, 39, of Richfield Springs.  

11/4; 3:30 p.m.—According to New York State Police, a vehicle was found submerged in a pond near the intersection of U.S. Rt. 20 and Skinner Road on Tuesday morning.

NYSP said they were dispatched around 9:30 a.m. after a passerby reported seeing part of a vehicle in the pond.

Troopers discovered a deceased 39-year-old woman from Richfield Springs inside the vehicle.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the woman was driving a Mitsubishi Mirage on Cole Hill Road overnight.

She reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with U.S. Rt. 20 and drove into the pond, according to State Police. 

The Underwater Recovery Team, Richfield Fire/EMS, and the Otsego County Coroner assisted at the scene.

NYSP said the investigation is ongoing.

RICHFIELD SPRINGS, N.Y. — Authorities are investigating after a car was found submerged in a pond in Herkimer County.

The incident occurred off Skinner Road in Richfield Springs just before 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Reports suggest one person may have been in the vehicle, but this has not been confirmed by New York State Police, who were at the scene along with the Richfield Springs Fire Department.

A tarp covered a small portion of the pond as investigators searched the area for clues.

It is currently unclear if there were any fatalities.
