Fair Lawn-based Columbia Bank has named Robert Maichin first senior vice president and head of commercial banking for New York, a role tied to the bank’s expanding regional footprint.
Maichin will lead Commercial & Industrial and Middle Market Lending across Columbia Bank’s growing New York market. That includes Staten Island and Brooklyn, which are expected to become part of Columbia Bank’s footprint through its pending acquisition of Northfield Bank.
In the role, Maichin will focus on commercial loan growth, expanding Columbia Bank’s lending presence, building its team of commercial banking professionals and delivering financial solutions for businesses across the region.
“Robert’s addition reflects our continued investment in expanding Columbia Bank’s commercial lending presence and delivering the relationship-driven service that has long defined our approach,” Thomas J. Kemly, president and CEO of Columbia Bank, said. “His deep experience and strong connections in the New York market will help us expand our reach, strengthen client relationships, and support the continued growth of businesses across the region.”
Maichin brings more than 35 years of commercial banking experience to the bank. He previously held senior leadership roles at Dime Commercial Bank, Bank Leumi USA, JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo.
Throughout his career, Maichin has built and led middle market, commercial and industrial, health care, asset-based lending and specialty finance businesses across the New York metropolitan area.
Columbia Bank said Maichin has experience developing commercial banking teams, expanding operations, launching specialized lending verticals and delivering financing solutions for middle market and corporate clients.
Maichin earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration from the State University of New York at Oswego. He is involved in community organizations, including Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York’s Accountants & Bankers Committee, and previously served with Project Sunshine and the Long Island City Partnership.
Founded in 1927, Columbia Bank has more than 70 locations, regional lending centers and an asset base of approximately $11 billion. The bank offers consumer and commercial banking products, financing, digital banking, title, investment, insurance and wealth management services.
