NEW YORK (TNND) — One person was taken into custody on Monday morning after an “incendiary device” exploded outside a federal building in New York City, according to the FBI.
“This morning an individual deployed an incendiary device outside of 26 Federal Plaza,” the FBI told Fox News. “The individual has been taken into custody and the FBI New York Joint Terrorism Task Force is investigating the incident.”
NYPD also confirmed to the outlet that there was a “found firearm” in connection with the event, but didn’t confirm if it was found on the suspect.
The building in Manhattan houses dozens of agencies, including the FBI, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
Video of the scene on social media showed heavy smoke in front of the building and officers arresting a person on the ground.
Sources also told CBS News that preliminary information indicated there were fireworks in a garbage can that exploded. The fire department responded to extinguish the flames.
