1. Fourth person dies in Upper East Side Legionnaires’ outbreak
A fourth person has died in connection with the Legionnaires’ outbreak on the Upper East Side, city Health Commissioner Dr. Alister Martin said yesterday evening.
As of Monday, there had been 76 reported cases of Legionnaires’ disease associated with the outbreak, according to the Health Department’s website. A first death in the outbreak was announced on Friday, a second death was announced on Saturday and a third death was announced on Sunday.
2. Mamdani doubles down on comments to arrest Netanyahu
Mayor Zohran Mamdani continues to consider his legal options when it comes to arresting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for alleged war crimes.
“If someone is charged with a warrant from the International Criminal Court for these types of crimes, that’s something I believe should be honored,” he said yesterday.
3. NYC specialized high school admissions face scrutiny over racial inequities
New York City’s elite specialized public high schools have faced backlash for years over the small number of admissions offers made to the city’s relatively large number of Black and Latino students.
Black students make up almost 20% of the city’s public school attendees, and Latino students make up 42%. However, combined, they made up just 10% of offers made by specialized high schools.
