A flood watch has been issued for New York City and a flood advisory has been issued for the Lower Hudson Valley July 21 and 22.

The National Weather Service said a flood watch is in effect for New York City and Bergen County from 8 a.m. Tuesday to 2 a.m. Wednesday. An additional flash flood advisory has been issued for Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Nassau and Suffolk counties for Tuesday.

Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected in the region throughout the day, with average rainfall totals predicted at around 1 to 2 inches, with isolated totals around 3 to 4 inches at most.

The National Weather said peak rainfall rates in the strongest storms near New York City could measure 2.5 inches per hour, while the Lower Hudson Valley and Long Island could see intense flash flooding in isolated areas.
