Weekend service on the Nos. 1, 2 and 3 trains will skip Lower Manhattan for the rest of July and most of August to facilitate the replacement of switch tracks, the MTA announced Tuesday.
“We’re replacing antiquated switches to reduce delays, improve service reliability and deliver a smoother ride,” NYC Transit President Demetrius Crichlow said in a statement.
Starting Friday evening, and for five consecutive weekends — from 9:30 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday — service on the Seventh Avenue Line will bypass southern Manhattan.
During that time, the No. 1 train will not run south of 14th St., officials said.
No. 2 trains will run only between Eastchester-Dyre Ave. and 34 St-Penn Station, and the No. 3 trains will not run at all.
In Brooklyn, the No. 5 train will make the local stops typically made by the Nos. 2 and 3, and the No. 4 train will replace the No. 3 between Crown Heights-Utica Ave. and New Lots Ave.
Regular weekend service will resume on August 29. Weekday service will be unaffected.
