The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced that New York City Transit will be replacing switches in Lower Manhattan that are past their useful life over the course of five weekends along the 1, 2 and 3 routes.
The new switches will provide better service reliability and on-time performance.
Beginning the weekend of July 24 and continuing every weekend through Aug. 24, riders should plan ahead for service changes in effect starting Fridays as early as 9:30 p.m., through Mondays at 5:00 a.m. The following service changes will be in place for all five weekends:

“We’re replacing antiquated switches to reduce delays, improve service reliability and deliver a smoother ride,” said NYC Transit President Demetrius Crichlow. “As one of the oldest and largest systems in the world, we are constantly upgrading infrastructure to keep New York moving and we appreciate riders’ patience as we perform this necessary upgrade.”
