The New York state Department of Transportation says it plans to close a one-and-a-half mile stretch of Interstate 690 in Syracuse for two years, starting in 2027.

The eastbound side of the highway through the city will be reconstructed from Leavenworth Avenue to Crouse Avenue.

During this time, traffic will be detoured onto city streets. The westbound side will remain open.

This work has to be done before the I-81 viaduct can be taken down.
