Council Member Ty Hankerson secured a $1.5 million investment for sanitation and cleanup in District 28.

New sanitation and cleanup efforts are on the way for District 28 in Queens after Council Member Ty Hankerson announced an investment of over $1.5 million for the initiative.
These sanitation investments, Hankerson’s office said, are intended to address the daily trash, litter and corridor conditions that residents, homeowners, small businesses and visitors see across the district.
More than $1 million of that funding is dedicated for recurring street sweeping service along Liberty Avenue, which runs through South Richmond Hill, as well as $100,000 for a sanitation Manual Litter Patrol (MLP) truck and $470,000 in added cleanup services for the district.
The MLP truck will run Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., giving the district more consistent cleanup support throughout the week.
According to Hankerson’s office, the street sweeping service is a level of regular sanitation support that has never been provided before on this side of the district.
“For years, residents and small businesses have been calling for stronger and more consistent cleaning along Liberty Avenue,” Hankerson said. “My office made sure Liberty Avenue was a major focus in this budget, not only for this year but also as an ongoing priority.
He added that the funding would help deliver reliable sanitation service that the community has “long deserved.” Cleaner streets and commercial corridors, he continued, are a basic part of quality of life, emphasizing that residents should be able to see that reflected in the services their government provides.
Hankerson’s office said the investments are part of the council member’s broader commitment to improving quality of life in Southeast Queens through direct, visible and reliable city services.
