This weekend marks the beginning of this year’s “Summer Streets” festivities.

The event kicks off in Queens and Staten Island on Saturday, July 25 and moves to Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx later this summer, the city’s Department of Transportation said.

The program makes more than 20 miles of streets car-free throughout the season, opening them up to pedestrians and cyclists.  

From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Vernon Boulevard between 44th Drive and 30th Drive in Queens will be a part of the celebration.

On Staten Island, Broadway between Richmond Terrace and Harvest Avenue will also be taking part in the program during that time. 

“Summer Streets” will return to the following stretches in Manhattan between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1, Saturday, Aug. 8 and Saturday Aug. 15, the DOT said: 

Lafayette Street and Park Avenue between Brooklyn Bridge and East 110th Street 
East 110th Street between Park Avenue and Broadway 
Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard between West 110th Street and West 113th Street 
Broadway between West 110th Street and Dyckman Street

And in Brooklyn and the Bronx, the program will return to the following streets from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22:

Brooklyn: Eastern Parkway from Grand Army Plaza to Buffalo Avenue
The Bronx: Grand Concourse from East Tremont Avenue to Mosholu Parkway

“Summer Streets is a celebration of the season and how we can bring public space alive to benefit all New Yorkers,” DOT Commissioner Mike Flynn said in a statement. “More than 500,000 people participate in Summer Streets each year, and we are proud to kick off this year in Queens and Staten Island.”

The DOT said it will be displaying a championship sign that was part of last month’s Knicks ticker-tape parade at “Summer Streets” sites in Queens, Manhattan and Brooklyn, along with a photo booth. 

Anyone who takes a selfie with the sign, follows the DOT on instagram and tags @NYC_DOT in a public post or story will be entered into a contest to win a replica “Champions Way” street sign, the agency said. 

The DOT plans to run one contest each weekend, with winners set to be chosen the following week.
