Brooklyn Center and Metro Transit police are teaming up in an effort to fight crime at a prominent transit hub.
The Metro Transit Police Department now has two officers stationed at the Brooklyn Center Transit Center.
“Building trust in community is very important to us, and having permanent cops, two cops stationed in one area on a daily basis, on a beat — that matters. It builds that trust with community,” said Metro Transit Police Chief Joseph Dotseth,
The two Metro Transit officers will be based out of the Brooklyn Center Police Department. It’s the first time Brooklyn Center and Metro Transit have partnered that closely.
Brooklyn Center Police Chief Garett Flesland said he hopes that by sharing a space and coordinating their response, they can drive down crime and create new community relationships.
“This really is data driven,” Flesland said. “It’s trying to put the right resources in the right place where they can have the biggest impact, but yet they can also interact with and build relationships with the largest group of people.”
Non-sworn security officers, including TRIP agents, will also continue to have a presence at the Brooklyn Center Transit Center.
