QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) — The fight against West Nile virus continues with the next round of mosquito spraying, this time in the borough of Queens.
Trucks will be out on the streets on Monday and Wednesday, spraying pesticide in neighborhoods that include College Point and Whitestone. Portions of Flushing and Kew Gardens Hills will be sprayed as well.

Testing of mosquito pools by the Health Department found that the areas being sprayed had an elevated risk of West Nile virus transmission. The recent warm weather, rainfall and high tides have created favorable conditions for mosquito breeding and virus amplification.
The Health Department will spray low concentrations of the pesticide Duet. The risk of the EPA-approved pesticide is low for people and pets, however, individuals sensitive to spray ingredients may experience temporary eye and throat irritation, or a mild rash, according to officials.
The first round of spraying will be conducted between 8:30 p.m. on Monday and 6 a.m. the following morning in the following zip codes:

Earlier this month, the Health Department detected an increase in mosquito pools with West Nile virus detected compared to the same period last year, but no human cases have been reported in the city so far this year.
