The cost of buying a home in New York State is the highest ever recorded

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The cost of buying a home in New York State is now the highest ever recorded.

According to the New York State Association of Realtors, the median price rose eight percent year-to-year, hitting $475,000 in June of 2026.

Those numbers are obviously skewed by downstate statistics, with counties like Richmond, Rockland and Suffolk in the $700k range.

Breaking down some of the June median sales numbers in the Finger Lakes Region:

Monroe County – $305,000

Ontario County – $370,000

Livingston County – $260,000

Orleans County – $221,500

Genesee County – $210,000

The number of homes on the market rose for the 16th straight month.

Interest rates edged up slightly from May to June, but at 6.49%, are still below the 6.82% from last year.
