ENDWELL, NY (WBNG) – The Maine-Endwell Spartans 12-U All-Star team is heading to Nyack, New York, this weekend for the New York State Little League Tournament.
Players said they are confident heading into the tournament, pointing to their lineup’s ability to get on base.
“We can just hit, we can field and do everything,” said Grayson Fish.
“We can just hit everybody, 1 through 12 can just rip the ball and we got very good fielding too,” said Braden Buckley.
Players also cited team chemistry as a strength going into the tournament.
“We’re always positive, we’re never mad at each other if you strikeout or make an out. We just keep each other up and no one is ever down,” said Luke Repetto.
Repetto added the team has put in hours of work on the practice field over the summer to reach this point.
“I’m excited, we’re a great team, we’re playing hard, we work together, we strive to win and we got a chance. We’re a good team,” Repetto said.
The run comes 10 years after another Maine-Endwell team won the Little League World Series, a milestone that has not been lost on this year’s squad.
“They’ve heard all about the stories, they’ve watched the game on YouTube and it’s just a cool thing going on with the 10-year anniversary and they were excited to represent Maine-Endwell and head to states like they did 10 years ago,” said head coach Charlie Jenkins.
The Spartans will play three games in pool play before a knockout-round structure begins during the week.
