Two Section VII high school girls’ soccer teams have been eliminated from the New York state playoffs.Both the Peru and Saranac girls’ teams battled at Beekmantown High School on Wednesday, Nov. 5, but fell short. The Knighthawks would lose to Schalmont High School, 2-0, as the Spartans would fall to Mechanicville, 2-0, as well.After splitting the first half, 0-0, Schalmont junior Ava Goodwin would connect on a deep shot to put the Sabres up 1-0. Shortly after, freshman striker Gia Kowalczyk would chip the ball over Peru’s goalie to extend their lead, 2-0.The past two playoff games for Peru have been fairytale endings.The Knighthawks produced two late goals against Plattsburgh High School in the Section VII semifinal to advance to the championship match, where they battled back down 2-0 to Beekmantown to win that game, 3-2, in double overtime.The Spartans also entered halftime tied, 0-0, with Mechanicville. The Red Raiders’ junior, Tanner Eiseman, would take a free kick from deep and score to give them a 1-0 lead early in the second half.Eiseman would score her second goal of the night after the ball bounced off Saranac’s goalie’s hands and right into the back of the net, propelling Mechanicville to a 2-0 win.See the highlights from both the Class A and Class B girls soccer state playoffs in the latest.
