NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — The yearly program that shuts down streets to vehicles and opens them to pedestrians and bikers returns to New York City this weekend.
This year’s Summer Streets program kicks off in Queens and Staten Island on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a day of free performances, cultural programs, fitness classes, giveaways and more.

Closed streets
Queens: Vernon Boulevard between 44th Drive and 30th Road
Staten Island: Broadway between Harvest Avenue and Richmond Terrace
Event attendees will be able to save up to $10 on Citi Bike and e-bike rides using the promo code SUMMER2WHEEL, while those who prefer to be on their feet can enjoy free running and walking programs hosted by New York Road Runners.
New this year, New Yorkers can also get an up-close look at the Knicks championship sign used during the team’s ticker-tape parade honoring their NBA win. Fans will be able to take pictures with the sign and even get the chance to win a replica of the Champions Way street sign by posting their selfies on social media.
For the chance to win, just look for a truck bearing a giant sign that reads “New York City Congratulations the 2026 NBC Champions.”

Future Summer Streets programs will also take place in Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx.
