The Hunters Point Parks Conservancy (HPPC) has announced the return of Movies in the Park for a 12th season, with four movie nights set to take place at the Oval in Hunters Point South Park in the coming months..
The event will return this Saturday with a screening of the classic ’80s comedy Ferris Bueller’s Day Off at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 25.
The Conservancy will also host screenings of the original Jurassic Park on Aug. 22, followed by a screening of the animated How to Train Your Dragon on Sept. 5 and concluding with The Nightmare Before Christmas on Halloween.
HPPC is partnering with Rooftop Films to provide a state-of-the-art viewing experience in the park this summer, featuring a 30’ inflatable screen with enhanced video projection equipment.
Conservancy President Rob Basch welcomed the return of the series, stating that the annual event helps to enhance the summer programming in the LIC waterfront park.
“Nothing says summer better than movies on the LIC Waterfront,” Basch said in a statement. “We are very happy to once again bring the community together for movies at the best theatre anywhere. We look forward to seeing everyone starting this Saturday night.”
HPPC said no alcoholic beverages are permitted in the park, adding that alcohol cannot be consumed outside of a designated picnic area outside Ottomanelli’s by the Water. The Conservancy also urged anyone planning to attend the events to clean up after themselves to keep the park tidy.
The movie nights are sponsored by TF Cornerstone and Shibley Day Camp.
