The city is getting ready to celebrate the history, culture and contributions of Harlem as the annual Harlem Week celebration returns next weekend.
Now in its 52nd year, Harlem Week began in 1974 as a way to highlight the neighborhood’s rich legacy in music, art, fashion, food and culture. Organizers say the celebration is focused on preserving Harlem’s history while creating opportunities for future generations.
This year’s events include live performances, a film festival, family activities, virtual programming, community conversations and a job fair.
Tamiko Evans, second vice chair of Harlem Week, joined “Weekends On 1” to preview this year’s festivities.
